Texas A&M Aggies vs. Auburn Tigers Betting Preview

In this Saturday Southeastern game, Auburn is projected as the favorite and the team’s currently giving up 5 points. If they want to take the moneyline, gamblers would currently have to put up $200 in order to win $100 back on the Tigers (-200). The Aggies are getting +170 moneyline odds. Oddsmakers have set the over/under (O/U) at 45.5 points, and should one side can create a bunch of points early, it would probably lead to a nice live betting opportunity.

The O/U has yet to change after being initially posted at 45.5. Having said that, the opening line was -6 and the early action has been shifting toward the Aggies.

The Aggies are 6-2 against the spread (ATS) and have gained 0.9 units so far. They’ve been a good under bet and have posted an O/U record of 2-5. The Tigers have been a disappointment to moneyline bettors this season, losing 13.0 units. They’re 3-5 ATS and own an O/U record of 2-6.

The Aggies have gone 5-3 straight up (SU), including 3-2 SU against conference opponents. The Tigers are 5-3 SU overall and 2-3 SU in conference play.

The Aggies will look to bounce back after a 28-13 defeat to Mississippi State last weekTheir defense allowed the Bulldogs to eat up the clock by rushing for 143 yards on 31 attempts, including two rush TDs. Stephen Guidry posted a good day for the Bulldogs in that one with 130 yards and a score on three catches. On the offensive side of the ball, Kellen Mond completed only 23-of-46 passes for 232 yards, along with a score and a pick. Trayveon Williams (26 yards on 10 rush attempts) spearheaded the ground attack in the loss. Quartney Davis (six receptions, 59 yards, one TD) and Hezekiah Jones (five catches, 51 yards) shared the receiving duties.

The Auburn Tigers just put together a 31-16 win over Ole Miss. The defense allowed the Rebels to pass for 324 yards while rushing for 123 yards. A.J. Brown was on a different level for Ole Miss, recording 155 yards on 10 catches. For Auburn, Jarrett Stidham completed 13-of-22 passes for 215 yards and one touchdown. JaTarvious Whitlow had an outstanding statline. Along with 170 rushing yards on 19 attempts, Whitlow also reeled in four catches for 38 yards and one TD.

Texas A&M has run the ball on 52.8 percent of its offensive plays this year, including 49.7 percent across possessions in conference play. Auburn has a rush percentage of 56.9 percent, and has kept it on the ground 52.9 percent of the time against SEC opponents. The Aggies have produced 186 rush yards/game (including 127 per game versus Southeastern opponents) and have 14 scores via handoffs this year. The Tigers are averaging 172 rush yards per game (141 in conference) and have 17 total rushing TDs.

If the numbers so far this season are any indication, then it’s looking like the Tigers ought to hold an advantage along both the offensive and defensive fronts, as their offensive line has given up only 16 sacks while the D-line has registered 24 sacks. The Aggies O-line has allowed 26 sacks and their defense has sacked opposing QBs just 20 times.

The Aggies offensive scheme has averaged 276 yards through the air overall (255 per game versus conference opposition) and has 12 passing TDs so far. The Tigers have put up 217 pass yards per game (216.6 in the SEC) and have eight total pass scores.

On the defensive side of the ball, Texas A&M has allowed 87 rush yards and 242 pass yards per game. The Auburn defense has given up 222.5 yards per game to opposing passers and 125.5 yards per game on the ground. The Tigers are allowing an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of just 4.82 to opposing QBs, while the Aggies have given up an 8.06 ANY/A.

Offensively, Mond has put up 1,679 passing yards this season, and has completed 58 percent of his 223 attempts with 10 scores through the air and six interceptions. He’s got a 5.98 adjusted net yards per pass attempt, including 6.09 over the last two games.

In the other huddle, Jarrett Stidham has completed 114-of-190 passes for 1,392 yards, six TDs and two INTs. Stidham’s ANY/A stands at 6.46 for the season and 6.86 across his past two games.

These two teams met last year with the final result being a 42-27 victory for Auburn.
