Vancouver Canucks at San Jose Sharks Odds

The Sharks (-275) are the solid favorite over the Canucks (+240), and the oddsmakers have set the Over/Under (O/U) at 6 goals (-105 for the over, -115 for the under).

Losing 6.5 units for moneyline bettors, San Jose is 11-11 straight up (SU) overall this year. That winning percentage, ranked 2nd in the Pacific Division in this young season, is a regression from the 45-37 record that the team managed during last year’s regular season campaign. Among its 22 games this season, 13 have gone over the total, while nine have gone under and none have pushed. The team’s 7-5 SU at home this season.

The Sharks have converted on 18.6 percent of their power play chances this year, a figure that’s right around league average. On the other hand, their penalty kill is rated second overall, and they’ve successfully killed off 89.2 percent of all penalties.

Averaging 24.5 saves per game with a .891 save percentage, Martin Jones (nine wins, seven losses, and two OT losses) has been the primary option in goal for the Sharks this year. If head coach Peter Deboer decides to rest him, however, the team may go with Aaron Dell (2-4-4 record, .920 save percentage, 2.47 goals against average).

Paying the opposite role of San Jose, Vancouver has overcome a poor record to be useful for bettors. The team’s only 10-14 straight up (SU), but has earned moneyline bettors 3.3 units this season. A total of 13 of its games have gone over the total, while 11 have gone under the total and none have pushed. As the road team this season, the Canucks are 5-10 SU.

The Canucks have converted on 20.0 percent of their power play chances this year, a mark that’s right around league average. On the other hand, its penalty kill unit is ranked 22nd overall and it’s successfully killed off 77.8 percent of all opponent power plays.

Jacob Markstrom (.896 save percentage and 3.42 goals against average) has been the main option in goal for Vancouver. Markstrom is averaging 30.1 saves per game and owns a 7-10-2 record.
