The Southern Methodist Mustangs (1-7) are seeking to break a six-game losing streak as they take on the No. 23 Temple Owls (7-1). The game kicks off Friday, Nov 6 at 8:00 p.m. ET and will be shown on ESP2.
In last week’s matchup, SMU lost to Tulsa 40-31. Courtland Sutton had a great game in the loss, pulling in eight receptions for 165 yards and two TDs. Temple also came up short, losing to Notre Dame 24-20. Ventell Bryant had a good performance for the Owls, grabbing six receptions for 91 yards. Robby Anderson had 53 receiving yards on two catches.
Temple is an 11-point favorite in this game against the Mustangs.
Sitting at 1-7 Straight Up (SU) and 4-4 Against The Spread (ATS), the Mustangs will look to improve heading into Week 10. In their five most recent matchups, the Mustangs went 0-5 SU and 1-4 ATS. During their last five games, the Mustangs have improved their pass coverage, giving up an average of 223.6 passing yards. SMU’s special teams squad is a force to be reckoned with. They average 113.5 return yards per game, 19th in Division I.
In the other locker room, the Owls head into Week 10 with records of 6-2 ATS and 7-1 SU. Over their last five games, the Owls have a SU and ATS record of 4-1 for those betting with them. The Temple defense has given opposing running backs trouble this season. Opponents average just 101.6 rushing yards per game against this terrifying group. If the Mustangs don’t do a good job holding on to the ball, they’ll have a hard time against the Owls defense, which ranks 16th in the country in turnovers with 2.1 per game. The Owls may be aware that the floodgates tend to open on the Mustangs during the fourth quarter, when they allow 10.5 points per game.
Predictions: SU Winner – Temple, ATS Winner – Temple
