Chick-fil-A is a Georgia-based fast-food restaurant that specializes in making tasty chicken sandwiches. The company was founded in 1946 and has grown to boast over 2,200 restaurants. One thing that separates this chain from other restaurants is that its outlets are closed on Sundays. Chick-fil-A’s founder, S. Truett Cathy, was a firm believer in reserving Sundays for worship, family, and rest.

You may have heard that there is a Chick-fil-A located in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium? One might think that this particular location would bend the rules and open up for business during Falcons’ home games, but you would be wrong. Unless, of course, those home games occur on a Monday as has been the case in the past. Still, despite the amount of money that the outlet could make by opening for Atlanta Falcons games, the company stands firm on its policy and has declared that the outlet in Mercedes-Benz Stadium will remain closed on Super Bowl Sunday.
So, is this for real? Will those attending Super Bowl in Atlanta be denied Chick-fil-A’s delicious chicken sandwiches? The oddmakers believe so. Yes, oddmakers have actually put out betting odds on whether Mercedes-Benz Stadium’s Chick-fil-A outlet will be open or closed for the NFL’s biggest event. Those who think the company will hold firm and keep the outlet closed can put their money where their mouths are for the steep price of -5000. If you think it is all a smoke screen and Chick-fil-A will serve food, then it might be worth placing a couple of dollars on it at +1500.
Chick-fil-A’s policy on being closed on Sundays has been lifted on a few occasions. After the tragic shooting spree at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, many locations in that city were open on a Sunday with the aim of feeding blood donors. When Hurricane Florence unleashed her fury last year, Chick-fil-A opened one of their locations in North Carolina on a Sunday to feed those in need. When a major power outage at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport stranded thousands of travelers one Sunday … you guessed it — it was Chick-fil-A and their mouth-watering chicken sandwiches to the rescue. Then there was the time when Chick-fil-A outlets in Texas gathered staff on a Sunday to feed first responders and others that were affected by a series of tornadoes that tore though the Lone Star State.
So, you see, there are always exceptions to the rule. However, bettors should note that the reasons for those Chick-fil-A Sunday openings were a lot more altruistic than any reasons for opening their Mercedes-Benz Stadium outlet on Super Bowl Sunday. They have never opened one of their restaurants on a Sunday out of greed or the prospect of quick profits. Maybe if, perish the thought, disaster were to strike the stadium during the game, Chick-fil-A might assemble a team and serve up some food. And the type of disaster I mean doesn’t include running out of Bud Light, a half-time nipple slip or a missed pass interference call with 1:46 left in the fourth quarter.
That +1500 might look attractive but those odds should be more along the lines of +20,000 or even higher. If I had a gun placed against my head and was forced to place a wager on this prop, I wouldn’t even give it a second thought although I’d probably have a sudden craving for chicken sandwiches.
My Pick: No. Chick-fil-A will not serve food on Super Bowl Sunday.
