The Stony Brook Seawolves (17-4, 5-1 AmEast) travel to UMBC to play the Retrievers (13-9, 5-2 AmEast) in what should be a low-scoring game. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday, January 30, 2019.

Stony Brook Seawolves at UMBC Retrievers Betting Prediction

The Seawolves are trying to rebound after their 73-52 loss to the Vermont Catamounts in their last outing. Vermont’s turnover percentage was their largest strength over Stony Brook. The Catamounts had a rate of 11.5 (better than their season average of 14.2), while the Seawolves posted a mark of 21.3 (above their season average of 17.9). Andrew Garcia led Stony Brook in scoring with 14 points on 4-for-8 shooting.

In the Retrievers’ previous matchup, they defeated the New Hampshire Wildcats, 59-51. The Retrievers knocked down 10 of their 12 free throws (83.3 percent) and held the Wildcats to an offensive rebounding percentage of 11.8 (below their season average of 24.4). KJ Jackson was the game’s high scorer with 21 points on 7-for-16 shooting from the field.

After splitting two games last season, this will be the first matchup of the year between these two teams. In the last contest, the Seawolves won 64-57. The Seawolves knocked down 13 of their 18 free throws (72.2 percent) and had a much better effective field goal percentage (0.531 vs. 0.387).

UMBC might have a tough time finding the bottom of the net as they clash against one of the NCAA’s best defenses. Stony Brook ranks 49th in defensive efficiency while the Retrievers rank 254th in offensive efficiency. It could also be an error-filled game for the Seawolves’ offense, which ranks 301st in ball security (turnover percentage of 21.3 percent). They’ll be going up against the stingy defense of the Retrievers, which forces the 15th-most turnovers in the NCAA (24.2 percent).
