Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Called Up, a Stolen-Car and More

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

It’s finally time: The top prospect in Major League Baseball is coming to the show. The Blue Jays called up Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to make his MLB debut on Friday. The son of the Hall of Famer has been tearing up the Minor Leagues for the past several years, and now we’ll see what he can do in Toronto. Elsewhere, the Yankees have yet another injury, the Angels have a new closer, Gio Gonzalez has a new team and Pedro Strop needs a new car (but he’s still the closer).

Remember Vlad the Impaler? This is the second coming. Many thought the Blue Jays could have or should have called up Guerrero last year, but they took their time and gained an extra year of contract control of the phenom in the process.

The Yankees keep winning, and they keep racking up more injuries. How long that can keep up is anybody’s guess, but for now it works. The latest victim is Clint Frazier. Oh, and Giancarlo Stanton’s recovery has stalled, too.

Cody Allen has struggled mightily ifor the Angels in the early-going, and Wednesday the team made the move to remove him as closer, at least temporarily.

Pedro Strop has no such problems for the Cubs, but he had another issue Thursday night: His car was stolen. He was out talking to police in the parking lot when he was called in to close out the Dodgers.

The Yankees released starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez last week, and he has a new home in Milwaukee.
