Because Major League Baseball doesn’t play many games outside of the U.S. and Canada, any time there are games somewhere else there are bound to be firsts. There have been MLB games in Japan already this year, and on Saturday night, the Astros and Angels played in Monterrey, Mexico, with a Yankees-Red Sox series in London still to come. The two starting pitchers, the Angels’ Trevor Cahill and the Astros’ Wade Miley, each made history by becoming the first pitchers to perform in four countries (they both also pitched in Australia). Elsewhere, the Reds released Matt Kemp, less than a year after acquiring the former All-Star from the Dodgers.
Cahill and Miley were teammates with the Diamondbacks when they both pitched in Australia. On Saturday, the Angels were the visitors so Cahill made history first.

Matt Kemp has been injured and ineffective for the Reds, but it still came as something of a surprise when Cincinnati released him, considering they gave away some goods for him in the Yasiel Puig deal this offseason.
The Yankees are def gonna pick Matt Kemp up and he’s inexplicably gonna hit .360 with 8 bombs over the course of a month. You have been warned.

Meanwhile, the Yankees aren’t the only team with a growing injury problem. The Nationals added another member to their wounded when promising young outfielder Juan Soto came down with back spasms.
