Major League Baseball saw its first no-hitter of the new season late Tuesday night when the A’s Mike Fiers blanked the Cincinnati Reds. It was Fiers’ second career no-no and the 300th in Major League history, counting two in the postseason. It was a busy night for west coast teams overall — at the same time, Justin Turner of the Dodgers broke out of a month-long slump with three home runs and the Angels’ Shohei Ohtani made his season debut after having Tommy John surgery last season.
Mike Fiers threw 131 pitches and needed outfielder Ramon Laureano to rob Joey Votto of a home run, but a no-hitter is a no-hitter.

It’s pretty remarkable to see Shohei Ohtani back so soon after Tommy John surgery, even if it’s just as a hitter.

Sad news from Philadelphia, where David Montgomery, the team chairman who led the Phillies to its 2008 World Series title, died after a five-year battle with cancer.
The sadness across baseball, over the passing of one of its most beloved citizens, Phillies chairman David Montgomery, is almost indescribable
Baseball has never had a classier, more dignified, more respected, more upbeat ambassador than him. RIP, David. We’ll miss you every day

The Yankees continue to have injury problems and continue to win. The latest victory came with a three-run ninth-inning rally to beat the Mariners 5-4 on Tuesday night.
