It’s never too early to start looking forward to Selection Sunday, is it? After all, the NCAA Tournament is the most exciting postseason in all of sports, so it makes sense that we’d already be giddy.
But for those fans locked in on their team, it may be more about nervousness with an early season win or loss always coming back around in March.
Here are four fan bases feeling good about their resume thus far.
Michigan State
We won’t go too far into detail here, given the coverage we’ve already thrown the Spartans’ way, but their win over Kansas puts their sights directly on one of the four top-seeds for March. Even better, it’s the kind of win that means they might not even have to win the Big Ten to get one of those seeds.
George Washington
Knocking off Virginia will look very, very good in a few months when GW is sitting together in front of their television waiting to hear their name called. Virginia is going to do a lot of damage in the ACC, and the Colonials look like they might have a chance to really compete in the A-10 as well. They just need to avoid having more than two real blemishes on their resume in the coming weeks.
Colorado
The Buffs hung right with Iowa State and picked up a neutral site loss against a team that figures to be top 15 RPI by season’s end, then went down to Auburn and beat the Tigers, who have a real shot at winning 20 or more games this season. Tad Boyle’s group still has to travel to Colorado State, then faces BYU down the road, so picking up those two in non-conference will be key.
Colorado State
Winning at Northern Iowa may not be the same as it would have been a year ago, but my guess is that not too many people walk into the Panthers’ gym and leave with a win. The Rams, however, did just that. This is not Larry Eustachy’s most talented team in Fort Collins, but they look like as physical a bunch as he’s had. Gian Clavell is one of the least talked about guards in the West, and I’d bet that changes as the year progresses.
