Finebaum is Out on Florida State, IPTAY Has Been a Rousing Success

The last two years have been rough for the Florida State Seminoles, and the SEC’s favorite troll no longer thinks that FSU is an elite program. Paul Finebaum said on Thursday that he no longer believes FSU is a destination job for coaches, capping off a week where there have been multiple stories on what has gone wrong in Tallahassee. Willie Taggart’s first season did not go well, but Jimbo Fisher did not leave the program in good shape. Multiple outlets have reported that Jimbo was looking for an out as early as 2016, and Texas A&M gave him exactly what he wanted when they signed Fisher to a 10-year $75 million contract that’s fully guaranteed. This is a critical year for Florida State after going a combined 12-13 in the last two seasons.

I Pay Ten A Year. That’s been the motto of Clemson’s boosters since ‘IPTAY’ was started to support the school’s athletics in 1934. You’ll see those five letters adorned on cars and businesses throughout northern South Carolina, but we’re a long ways from the the days of boosters paying just $10 a year. Clemson’s success has been fueled by and led to the school announcing incredible fundraising numbers over the past six years. The Tigers have raised almost $360 million, which is certainly the most of any ACC school.

There are some fantastic non-conference games in September that will make or break teams’ seasons. SI looks at some of those games, and the one that is certain to get the most hype is Notre Dame and Georgia. Both teams have made it to the College Football Playoff in the last two seasons, and both teams are among the preseason favorites to win it all in 2019. However, the best game might be between Clemson and Texas A&M. The Aggies are the team most likely to give Clemson a real test this season with the ACC down.
