The New York Knicks hoped they could lure at least one superstar to Madison Square Garden during this summer’s NBA free agency period, but they missed out on every target.
However, they managed to bring in several talented players, including power forward Bobby Portis.
Despite finishing the previous campaign with the worst record in the NBA, Portis thinks the Knicks can make it to the playoffs this time around.
“The naysayers, the haters, the people who are doubting us will say that we’re crazy as hell for saying that (the playoffs are a realistic goal),” Portis said in an interview with HoopsHype’s Alex Kennedy. “We have a lot of pieces who can play. I think we’re loaded at every position; there are two-to-three players who could start at every position. When you have that much talent, that rises the competitiveness and improves the team as a whole.”

The bookies don’t share Portis’ opinion as they gave the Knicks +30000 odds to win the NBA championship. New York has only a two percent of chances to reach the postseason in the 2019-20 campaign. Still, Portis believes the Knicks have been overlooked, and he is optimistic they can play a significant role in the Eastern Conference.
“Going into the season, I think you need three, four, five frontcourt players that can be interchangeable,” Portis said. “The season is obviously a long haul and things happen; players get hurt and this and that. Over the course of a long season, you need depth. I think we have a lot of depth on this team, at every position… We have a lot of players who are going to compete at a high level each and every night. We have a lot of talent on our roster. I think we’re being overlooked.”
