By the time the calendar hits late July and August, the Major League Baseball season is as much a battle of attrition as anything else. We’re starting to see that more and more as players — especially pitchers — seem to get injured every day. The Indians got good news, though, with ace Corey Kluber nearing a return, but the Brewers might have lost their ace, Brandon Woodruff, and the Nationals’ Ryan Zimmerman also appears headed to the injured list.

A line drive broke Corey Kluber’s arm May 1 in Miami, and he’s been working back ever since. He threw 30 pitches in a bullpen session Sunday in the latest step toward recovery.

Ryan Zimmerman is nearly synonymous with the Nationals at this point in his career. Unfortunately, he’s also nearly synonymous with injuries.

You might not have heard of Brandon Woodruff, but he’s been the Brewers’ best starter this season. Bad news for beer-town.

Derek Holland has bounced around a long time in the league. We’ll see if the veteran lefty gets another shot somewhere.
