Nebraska News: Scott Frost Receives Some Weird Stuff in the Mail

Being heralded as the chosen one can lead to a lot of pressure, but there are some interesting … rewards(?) with the job as well. During Big Ten Media Days last week, Nebraska head coach Scott Frost shared one of the benefits of his new position. Fans of the program send in lots of stuff, but sometimes what comes in the mail isn’t anything you really want to have or even touch.

The media blitz at conference media days is a bit of a whirlwind, so things can get lost in the mix. It’s fortunate that this little tidbit was eventually picked up though, as it shows just how crazy the life of a college football coach can be when you have a rabid fanbase with high expectations.

While doing an interview with Sirius XM, Frost was asked to reveal one of the perks of job, and he shared this little nugget:

“I’ve said this a couple times but one of the things I wasn’t expecting is all the stuff people send me. It’s funny in life how when you don’t have any money, nobody gives you anything. Then you get in a role like this, and I get gifts sent to my office all the time.”

He expanded on this by mentioning some of the gifts he has received. Things started off sweet, but they quickly moved to the surreal:

“I’ve gotten some good ones. I got a rocking horse for my son, and a plane that’s a rocker for him. I get clothes for the two kids. Then I get some weird stuff too. I got a pair of used boxers. It was pretty obvious (they had been used). The guy said, ‘these are the boxer shorts I was wearing when you guys beat Missouri in ’97 and I thought you’d want to have them.’ And he was wrong.”

It will be interesting to see what Frost gets in the mail next summer. If the Cornhuskers fail to make it to a bowl game once again, he might get plenty of used underwear in the mail. However, a double-digit win season could lead to the kind of gifts you want to receive from fans.
