Last year, the rumor was that Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay was the NFL’s lowest paid head man in the league. If it was true, as of Friday, that is no longer the case. The Rams and McVay agreed to a new contract that shreds his old deal and will keep him in the Captain’s Chair through the 2023 season.
McVay will be happy to know that the Spock to his James T. Kirk will also remain on the bridge as general manager Les Snead got a similar deal. He too will boldly go with the franchise through 2023.

“I’m very thankful to be a Ram for many years to come, working with great ownership, people, coaches, and players,” McVay told NFL.com. “It’s exciting to get camp going and we’re ready to roll up our sleeves up and get to work.”
McVay’s value to the Rams can not be understated. Before the team hired the former Washington Redskins offensive coordinator, their last winning season was in 2003, a 12-4 campaign under then head coach Mike Martz.
There were many (and I MEAN MANY) low points since that season. The team hired three absolute garbage head coaches after letting Martz go; Scott Linehan, Steve Spagnuolo and, of course, Jeff Fisher. Fisher, as you well know, is the losingest regular season coach in NFL history and the co-losingest if you count postseason games. And you shouldn’t. It’s an achievement if you take your team to the playoffs, win or lose. All Fisher did was lose.

McVay, on the other hand, has two NFC West titles in two years, an NFC title and made it to a Super Bowl, losing to the New England Patriots as so many teams have before his. He’s 24-8 as a head coach so far and, if predictions hold, will likely just barely cross double-digit coaching losses this year by the end of the season and his team should vie for another Super Bowl appearance.
McVay’s impact has resonated throughout the league as many new 2019 head coaches had ties to or formerly worked for the Rams head coach.
Everybody wants a Sean McVay. The Rams already got theirs and now they’ve made sure they’ll keep him. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but McVay is probably one of the top-paid head coaches in the NFL as of this afternoon.
