Zion Williamson, the top pick from the 2019 NBA Draft, attended the New Orleans Saints first training camp practice, after which he joined quarterback Drew Brees and running back Alvin Kamara for a basketball-themed quarterback challenge.

The Pelicans forward impressed at the quarterback challenge, and Saints head coach Sean Payton admitted Williamson is a talented athlete.
“If you’ve seen the way he’s put together …” Sean Payton said. “Just 10 snaps a game as a sub [defensive] end.” Payton even added that if Zion were to sign with the Saints, it would be a great news for the defensive line coach and the tight end coach.
“It’s not like he requires a lot of projection,” said Payton. “Like, we’ve looked at a lot of body types, but I feel like that’s an easy projection. We considered the seventh-round pick even in case there was a problem across the parking lot.”
The New Orleans Pelicans and Saints are a part of one big family as the two franchises share the same owner, Gayle Benson, as well as the same training facilities in Metairie, Louisiana.
Brees welcomed Williamson to Big Easy with open arms. Brees signed a jersey for him after the NBA draft with the sign, “Passing the torch to you!” He gave Williamson another shout-out earlier in July at the ESPYs, saying that the city of New Orleans was ready for him.
