On January 11, 2017 Ezekiel Elliott was involved in a car crash. Normally, this wouldn’t be a big deal and since no one seemed to be severely hurt, it’s just a normal fact of daily life. A lawsuit filed by attorney Larry Friedman now claims that Elliott, the Cowboys and the Frisco Police Department all teamed up to hide how bad the accident actually was.

The wreck occurred right before the team played the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round. According to the filing, Dallas’ running backs coach, Gary Brown, showed up at the scene and told the driver of the other car in the accident that “We will take care of everything.” Apparently, they didn’t and now the plaintiff, represented by Friedman, is asking for $20 million damages.

“Ezekiel Elliott believes he’s above the law,” Friedman told TMZ. “He doesn’t follow any rules. As a citizen and a member of our community he has a duty to obey the law and act responsibly, especially while driving a motor vehicle. . . . There are no exemptions for running backs or members of the Dallas Cowboys. He has admitted liability in this case but refuses to take responsibility as he has refused to take responsibility on so many other occasions when he has disobeyed the law.”

While this is obviously just a civil case, there is one interesting tidbit that might prompt an NFL investigation. The lawsuit claims that Elliott was more hurt than he or the team let on and he should have been held out of the Packers game.

“If anyone had actually reported the impact of the accident and had Elliott been examined he would have most likely been placed in concussion protocol and out for the Dallas Cowboys upcoming playoff game,” the lawsuit reportedly states.

Dallas lost that game 34-31, with Elliott rushing 22 times for 125 yards.

What any of this could turn into for Elliott and the Cowboys is anyone’s guess, but he’s probably glad he’s resting on a beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico today.
