It was a day full of roster additions and cuts all across the NFL as teams wrapped up their first week of training camp and got a good look at their rosters. Many have found them wanting.
Friday, the NFL’s transaction wire was overrun with new acquisitions, but the biggest name in the news has yet to earn a contract. The Indianapolis Colts brought in former New York Jets and Giants wide receiver Brandon Marshall for a workout.

Marshall played in seven games with the Seattle Seahawks last season and started two. He caught 11 passes for 136 yards and a touchdown. He was injured most of 2017 with the New York Giants. He’s four years removed from his best NFL season, 2015, where he caught 109 passes with the Jets with 1,502 yards and 14 touchdowns.
The Colts aren’t exactly world-beaters at receiver. After legitimate star T.Y. Hilton, they’ve got free agent acquisition Devin Funchess, second round pick Parris Campbell out of Ohio Stae and not much else. Marshall would be a solid back up and an upgrade over anyone on the bench at the right price.
Acquisitions and cuts
Linebacker Nick Deluca was signed by the Miami Dolphins. He played in nine games for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season and started two. He recorded 12 tackles and forced one fumble.
The Atlanta Falcons added safety Ronald Martin and cornerback Hamp Cheeevers and cut defensive back Rashard Causey and long snapper Kyle Vasey. Martin spent last season on injured reserve with the Indianapolis Colts.
The #Falcons are releasing UDFA CB Rashard Causey, who was one of their highest paid undrafted players, I’m told. He had also battled a hamstring injury.

Tight end Mik’Quan Deane out of Western Kentucky earned a spot on the Cleveland Browns’ 90-man training camp roster. In a corresponding move they cut wide receiver Blake Jackson. Kicker Phil Dawson signed a one-day contract to retire as a member of the team.
Larry Allen Jr. was claimed off waivers and Jamar McGloster was signed as a free agent as the Los Angeles Chargers look to bolster depth on their offensive line. In corresponding moves, L.A. cut linebacker Tre’von Johnson and offensive lineman Cole Toner.

Long snapper Andrew East was signed by the Washington Redskins after Nick Sundberg was placed on injured reserve with a back injury. They also brought in defensive back D.J. White.
Linebacker Dadi Nicolas was signed by the Indianapolis Colts after they put running back Spencer Ware on the PUP list.

The San Francisco 49ers claimed tight end Daniel Helm off waivers and cut tight end Niles Paul.
Tight end Alex Ellis was picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles. They waived linebacker Joey Alfieri to make room on their roster for him.
Alex Ellis is more of a blocking TE. #Eagles now have Ertz, Goedert, Rodgers, Perkins, Will Tye and Ellis at the position.
