MLB News: Craig Kimbrel to IL, Tim Beckham Gets PED Suspension and More

Baseball already has had a busy week with players’ comings and goings across the Major Leagues. The Cubs placed their high-priced closer, Craig Kimbrel, on the injured list. MLB suspended Mariners infielder Tim Beckham for performance-enhancing drugs. Zack Greinke had a mediocre debut with the Astros, but won anyway because they scored 11 runs. And the Giants are parting ways with a fan favorite and 2014 World Series hero.

Kimbrel struggled in his first month with the Cubs but had been better recently. He hopes he’ll only miss the minimum 10 days.

Beckham, a former No. 1 overall pick, had been having something of a resurgent season with Seattle. Not anymore after he became the third big leaguer this season to get an 80-game PED suspension.

Greinke called pitching behind the Astros offense ‘boring’ because of all the long innings. But he’ll take the run support.

Joe Panik was a fan favorite and World Series hero in San Francisco. But the truth is, he hadn’t been producing for some time.

Hopefully this is nothing serious for the Yankees’ Gleyber Torres, who returned to action Tuesday after a hospital visit Sunday night … but then had to leave Tuesday’s game and return to New York for more testing.
