Dolphins News: Miami Continues Making Moves Trading Away Kiko Alonso

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

After taking the Houston Texans to cleaners in the Laremy Tunsil trade, the Miami Dolphins decided they’d like to shed a little more before they begin their vigorous 2019 season tanking. The Fins shipped linebacker Kiko Alonso to the New Orleans Saints in a trade Sunday. All the details of the swap have not yet been revealed, but the Dolphins will get linebacker Vince Biegel in the deal.

Alonso is due a $6.485 million salary this season and now Miami can wipe that off the books. Of all the players they were rumored to have on the block, only safety Reshad Jones remains with the team. For now.

As for Alonso, he must feel reborn. New Orleans is a Super Bowl favorite this season and for a guy that’s spent the last few years of his career with the Buffalo Bills and Dolphins, he has to be pumped to jump on the plane to Louisiana to join Drew Brees and Cam Jordan.

Alonso is a former second round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013 out of Oregon. Last year he recorded 125 tackles, a career high, three for a loss, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, six passes defended and three interceptions.

Dolphins Add Five After Cuts

While Miami might be shedding contracts and talents, they still have a roster to fill. Sunday, they added five new players from other teams’ cut-down.

From the New England Patriots, they added defensive end Trent Harris and defensive back Ken Webster. Linebacker Deon Lacy joins the team after spending the preseason with the Bills, Avery Moss, formerly a DE with the New York Giants comes aboard, as does former Los Angeles Rams DB Steven Parker.

Cuts & Moves

The Fins placed Robert Nkemdiche and Cordrea Tankersly on the Reserve/PUP list. They’ll be unavailable for the first six weeks of the season, but remain under Miami’s control.

They cut Brice Butler, Tank Carradine, Tyler Patmon, Dwayne Allen, Tony Adams, Cornell Armstrong, Jalen Davis, Nick DeLuca, Michael Dunn, Wesley Farnsworth, Kenneth Farrow, Isaiah Ford, Kyle Fuller, Dewayne Hendrix, Tyrone Holmes, Reece Horn, Trenton Irwin, Jaryd Jones-Smith, Joey Mbu, Torry McTyer, Aaron Monteiro, Nik Needham, Jamiyus Pittman, Durval Queiroz Neto, T.J. Rahming, David Rivers, Jake Rudock, Maurice Smith, Terrance Smith, Cory Thomas and Tre’ Watson.
