Rams News: Los Angeles Leads the NFL in Waived Players Claimed

When it comes to the 53-man cut-down, NFL teams are in three camps. First, there are the squads in desperate need of help, so they’re more than ready to cut the chaff from their own rosters and add cast-off players. The second are teams in the middle of the pack, with way more bubble players than entrenched stars, who are looking for an upgrade, but can deal with what they have.

The third? These are the rich folks. The loaded rosters where there’s just no real room to catch on unless you’re better than a bubble guy. With that said, it shows not only how well you’ve put together your roster, but how well you’ve scouted undrafted free agents to get your cuts picked up on the waiver wire by other teams. This year, the Los Angeles Rams led the way with five guys claimed.

Nine teams had multiple players claimed. The two Super Bowl teams lead the pack.

3: Bills, Ravens
2: Eagles, Packers, Vikings, Cardinals, Bengals

These become a point of pride for personnel departments, as players getting claimed are a show of depth.

You will not be surprised to see the New England Patriots were second with four. Last year’s Super Bowl was no accident.

Rounding out the teams with multiple players picked up, the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens shockingly had three and the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals and Cincinnati Bengals all had two.

While some of those squads might have a year two of development ahead, the fact that their personnel department can put together a roster that other teams want bodes well for the future.
