Obviously, things have unraveled in a hurry for the Houston Astros. First, the 2019 World Series looked like it belonged to the Nationals. Then, the Astros took the drivers seat. Last night, the Nationals grabbed momentum, and it began when Juan Soto hit a tape measure shot off Justin Verlander.

Tonight, the Nationals are gunning for a championship with Max Scherzer on the bump. So how do we gauge how Houston Astros fans are feeling right about now? Of course, by looking at ticket prices. Let’s take a look at what the ESPN story says on the plummeting ticket prices are doing up to the moment on Wednesday.
According to a spokesperson from VividSeats.com, the “get-in” price — or the cheapest seats available for Game 7 — was $337. The average ticket was selling for $840, down from $950 for Game 6. According to the spokesperson, the four World Series games have been the most in-demand tickets for any live event in Texas this year.
Now, I am no mathematician. But that seems like several hundred percent lower on a night that has the same probability of your team being crowned a champion on your home turf. Therefore, what changed? First off, an Astros fan named Mike Hensley can’t even find someone to go to the game with him. Here are his thoughts on what is going on with ticket prices.
“Game 2 tickets were $1,200 plus fees. Today’s are $600 plus fees,” Hensley said. “Houston’s depressed and ticket prices reflect that.”
Perhaps Houston fans don’t want to go out and see a collapse – or they have little faith in Zack Greinke – the opposing pitcher tonight who will try to give Houston their second title in three years. Either way, the Astros fans are communicating their emotions with their wallets.
In just a few short hours, we will know who the champion is from 2019 MLB season. And a lot of people will be through the turnstiles on the cheap.
