Remember when David Ortiz was shot this past June? Indeed, the former superstar slugger stated that he thought he was going to die. However, and thank goodness; that was not the case. Now, it looks as if he’s made a full recovery.
Equally important on Sunday, Ortiz appeared publicly for the first time since the shooting.
Big Papi entered the Quisqueya Stadium Juan Marichal for the Game of Legends, which is a charity exhibition and home run derby featuring Dominican major league and retired players.

Indeed, Ortiz sounded happy to be in the Dominican; alive and well when he spoke.
“Praise God and long live the Dominican Republic. I’m happy to be here with my people.”
To recap, Ortiz was shot mistakenly for a hit put out on a man named Sixto David Fernandez. While the two men are close friends, Ortiz and Fernandez were sharing a table the night Ortiz was erroneously shot.
Additionally according to reports, the hit was contracted by Victor Hugo Gomez. Gomez is an associate of Mexico’s Gulf Cartel. Reports went on to say that Gomez wanted Fernandez killed because he believed his cousin turned him into Dominican drug investigators in 2011.
Finally, it’s great to see Papi out and happy once again. He’s a great ambassador of the game, and a guy who should grow old telling his legendary tales of all those big home runs he hit both in the regular season and postseason. We are so glad he’s alright.
