The Tar Heels enter the NCAA Tournament with a record of 18-0, including an ACC record of 8-0. Carolina defeated No. 2-ranked Boston College, 16-9, in the final game of the ACC Tournament on May 7 in Chapel Hill, for its sixth consecutive ACC Tournament victory.
The Tar Heels are invited to the NCAA Tournament for the 17th consecutive year and the 23rd time overall. Carolina has twice won the NCAA title since 2013. (2013, 2016). Jenny Levy’s 36 NCAA Tournament victories are tied for fourth all-time. UNC earns a top-five seed for the thirteenth consecutive year.
Carolina is participating in its 23rd NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels are 36-20 in NCAA Tournament games and have reached the semifinals 12 times (1997, 1998, 2002, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021), including nine times in the most recent 12 tournaments. Carolina is the top overall seed, followed by Maryland, Boston College, Northwestern, and Syracuse. Maryland is the second seed, while Boston College, Northwestern, and Syracuse are the fourth and fifth seeds, respectively.
ESPN will broadcast more NCAA Tournament games in 2022 than in any prior year. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be shown on ESPNU, while the championship game will be broadcast on ESPN for the first time. Each of the 28 games in the single-elimination tournament will be broadcast on ESPN.
