Conforto was the most prominent unsigned free agent from the previous season. Boras said in April that Conforto sustained a shoulder injury during the MLB lockout and required surgery that month. According to original rumors, Conforto would miss the remainder of the 2022 season. Boras stated, though, that if Conforto continues to make progress in his rehabilitation, the left-handed batter might perhaps hit for a team in September.
“There is a potential that the swinging aspect might return to normal sooner than the throwing element,” Boras explained. “His operation occurred in April. Depending on his progression, [hitting in the major leagues late in the season] is a possibility.” Boras said that Conforto is training everyday near his house in Arizona and recovering nicely.
