Joel Embiid underwent surgery on his thumb and index finger and will be ready for training camp

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid underwent surgery on Monday to heal two damaged fingers. During the team’s 2022 playoff run, Embiid was hampered with a damaged ligament in his right thumb. In addition, he required surgery to correct an injury to the index finger on his left hand. Neither is anticipated to affect his preparedness for autumn training camp.

Embiid’s right thumb injury was reported for the first time during the Sixers’ first-round matchup with the Toronto Raptors. He played despite the injury as Philadelphia overcame Toronto before being ousted from the playoffs by the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.

Embiid played despite the injury in Philadelphia’s Game 4 loss to the Raptors, finishing with 21 points, eight rebounds, and three assists in Toronto’s 110-102 defeat. In the final two games of the series, he averaged 26.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks. In addition, he sustained a right orbital fracture and concussion in Game 6 against Toronto, which prevented him from playing in Games 1 and 2 of the series versus Miami.
