Cowboy Rally Fails to Win NCAA Championship

The Oklahoma State men’s golf team was eliminated from the NCAA Championship after a 3-2 loss to Texas in the quarterfinals of match play on Tuesday morning at Grayhawk Golf Club.

OSU competed in the quarterfinals of a match play bracket for the ninth time, but dropped to 6-3 overall. In addition, the Cowboys have participated in this competition in 74 of a possible 75 seasons and have finished in the top five 57 times.

Parker Coody won the opening match for Texas by defeating OSU sophomore Bo Jin 3 and 2. Jin won the second hole of the match on the back nine before Coody leveled the score two holes later and took a lead he would not relinquish on the 16th.

Cole Hammer earned the second point of the match with a 3-and-2 victory against senior Aman Gupta in the deciding match for the Longhorns. Like Jin, Gupta had an early 1-up advantage until Hammer won three of the last four holes on the front nine. Gupta would get within one with seven holes remaining, but Hammer would win the next two holes to extend his advantage.
