The Blue Jays are giving Gabriel Moreno a chance to shine

According to two industry sources, Gabriel Moreno will join the Toronto Blue Jays in Detroit this weekend and will be activated at some point during a three-game series against the Tigers. The news comes a day after teammate catcher Danny Jansen was diagnosed with a fracture in his left pinky finger, as originally reported by MLB’s Keegan Matheson on Wednesday night. This might be a game-changer for Moreno. This opportunity is significant enough to define the young player’s professional destiny

Zack Collins was initially recalled from triple-A Buffalo and went 2-for-4 with a home run in an 8-4 loss to the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, but the club decided it was time to bring up the 22-year-old, who is ranked as the game’s No. 5 prospect by Baseball America, now that an opportunity has presented itself. The roster change that went along with it was not immediately revealed.

Moreno has been vying for a promotion with the Bisons for some time, batting.324/.380/.404 in 36 games. A blistering May, in which he hit .380/.443/.479 in 18 at-bats, demonstrated how ready he is at the plate, but there was no room for him with Alejandro Kirk and Kenley Jansen pitching at a top level for the Blue Jays.
