LeBron James has expressed interest in owning an NBA expansion franchise

LeBron James is nearing the end of his illustrious career, so it’s only natural that he’s already considering options when his playing days are done. He’s previously tried his hand at acting and producing, as well as opening a school in his hometown and being named a millionaire by Forbes. He was the first active player in the NBA to achieve such a financial milestone.

With the sort of portfolio James has built over the course of his playing career, the options are virtually endless after he retires. One aim he appears to be working toward is owning an NBA club. During the most recent episode of James’ TV show, he not only voiced his desire to buy a team, but he also said where he would want to do it.

“I want to own a team, and I definitely want to own a team,” James stated. “Before I speak, I’d much rather own a team. Yes, I’d want to have a team in Vegas.” Though LeBron James may desire to own a franchise in Las Vegas, he may have to wait a bit, as NBA commissioner Adam Silver recently stated before Game 1 of the NBA Finals that the league will not be expanding anytime soon. James already holds holdings in corporations that control a number of sports clubs, so such a move would be expected. However, because he did not identify a team, this is still a matter of conjecture.
