Peugnet wins at NCAA collegiate competition

Valetin Peugnet, a senior at Illinois State, won the Island Resort NCAA Division 1 intercollegiate men’s golf event on Monday by adhering to the fundamentals. Peugnet won by four strokes at Sage Run Golf Club on this bright and comfortable afternoon with a round of 7 under par. He completed the two-day, three-round tournament at 13 under par. Caleb VanArragon of Valparaiso and NJ Botha of the University of Toledo tied for second place with 207 points each. In the first round, Puegnet and Van Arragon both shot 72, and in the second, they each shot 66.

Puegnet stated, “I tried to keep things as basic as I could, and everything worked very well. My tee shots went well, and I’ve been working hard on my short game. Overall, everything went really nicely. This course is difficult. At times, it might be really difficult. The highest chances of making a birdie are on holes 8 and 9. Although the weather was excellent, I knew it would be difficult. Just play the best golf you can.” Toledo and Illinois State both split the team championship.
