Women’s volleyball from Oregon shocks Stanford with a sweep

The No. 21 Oregon volleyball team defeated No. 5 Stanford in Matthew Knight Arena on Sunday thanks to a boisterous home crowd. The Ducks worked really hard to come back from a set down to defeat the Cardinal at home for the first time ever. For the first time in the history of the rivalry, Oregon has defeated Stanford in three straight sets, and has now defeated one of the greatest collegiate volleyball teams ever in eight straight sets.

Coach Matt Ulmer of the UO remarked, “I am extremely pleased with our bunch. We engaged in a fairly thorough game. We put up such a fight against a strong squad. The surroundings were fantastic. I’m really incredibly happy of how our team rose to the occasion and played Oregon volleyball.”

The Ducks outhit Stanford.327 to.250 and out-blocked Stanford four to seven. The Ducks were able to sideout at 70.5 percent during the match as a result of Oregon having more aces and fewer mistakes from the serve line. They successfully prevented the Cardinal from scoring runs over time.
