Bahamians begin competing in NCAA Division I early

Although the start of the NCAA Division I basketball season is still a few days away, numerous Bahamas players began their 2022–23 seasons with exhibition games. A Mississippi basketball great was honored by Yolett McPhee-McCuin and Ole Miss, and Fredrick King and Lathaniel Bastian got the chance to don the uniform for their respective teams for the first time.

In a game that also served as a memorial to the late Hall of Famer and Delta State basketball star Lusia Harris Stewart, Ole Miss beat Delta State 80-38 inside the SJB Pavilion. When Harris Stewart was a standout at Delta State in the middle of the 1970s, he won three significant collegiate NAIA national titles. She was the first and only woman to ever be formally selected by the New Orleans Jazz of the NBA. On November 7, Ole Miss plays Kennesaw State in the first game of the year. When the Big East released its preseason poll, the Bluejays were predicted to finish first overall. Last year, they ended 23-12, in fourth place in the regular season Big East Conference standings, and second in the conference tournament.
