Miguel Iturrate and the Talk ‘n’ Shoot Classic Boxing Podcast are back and this is the first of a series of All-Time fantasy tournaments. Today sees the crew draft six fighters in each of the eight classic weight classes and the choices will fight in a “Super Six” style tournament. That format has the six fighters competing three times, earning points for wins and eliminating two men at the end of the first round. That leaves the survivors in a traditional four-man single elimination tournament.
The weight classes selected are the original eight traditional boxing weight classes: Flyweight, Bantamweight, Featherweight, Lightweight, Welterweight, Middleweight, Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight. The whole gamut of boxing’s history is opened up in the draft. The Talk ‘n’ Shoot crew picked a wide range of fighters dating from the turn of the lst century to fighters who were active very recently.

Some of the potential match-ups that could develop are true epic fantasy match-ups such as Pernell Whitaker and Floyd Mayweather junior were both taken in the Lightweight division where both are considered among the greatest defensive fighters of the modern era. Also selected in the Lightweight class is the legendary “Hands of Stone” Roberto Duran as well as old-timers Benny Leonard, Joe Gans and Tony Canzoneri. All six fighters picked were considered the best fighters of their respective time periods. The opening round sees each fighter compete in three bouts where the boxers earn three points for a win by knockout or technical knockout, two points for a win on points (or by disqualification), one point for a draw and zero points for a loss.

So who are the fighters in the other weight classes? Greats from all eras from the likes of Bob Fitszsimmons, Harry Greb and Sam Langford to more modern day warriors such as “Marvelous” Marvin Hagler, Carlos Monzon and Bernard Hopkins.
