Jamie Vardy’s goal scoring tear was bound to end sooner or later and it’s worth noting that even though he didn’t score against Everton he still registered an assist in Leicester’s 3-2 win that helped make sure they stayed at the top of the Premier League table. Vardy earned honorable mention among the top fantasy forwards but he couldn’t outperform this week’s top two fantasy performances by strikers as outlined in this week’s recap. Here is a look at the top individual fantasy performances by position from this past weekend in the Premier League.
GK: Hugo Lloris, Tottenham
Spurs got its ascent up the Premier League standings back on track with a 2-0 win over Southampton in which Lloris stole the show with the best fantasy performance among Premier League goalkeepers from this past weekend. Lloris stopped all four shots he faced in the clean sheet victory to edge out Watford’s Heurelho Gomes for the best fantasy performance of the week at his position. Tottenham has now held its opponents to just 14 goals in 17 games this season, which is the fewest the EPL. The win pushed them to 29 points on the season, which puts them in a tie with Manchester United and Crystal Palace for fourth in the table.
Honorable Mention: Heurelho Gomes, Watford
D: Branislav Ivanovic, Chelsea
After an absolutely terrible start to the season, Chelsea finally gave its fans something to celebrate this past week as they mutually agreed to part ways with Jose Mourinho as manager and then recorded a 3-1 win over Sunderland. Ivanovic led the way for the Blues with the opening goal in the fifth minute of that game and his terrific all-around performance was enough to make him the top fantasy producer among Premier League defenders from this past weekend.
Honorable Mention: Nathan Ake, Watford; Kyle Walker, Tottenham
M: Riyad Mahrez, Leicester
Mahrez has certainly helped Vardy shoulder the load for Leicester over the past few weeks and he played the starring role in this week’s win over Everton with a pair of goals including a penalty kick marker. Mahrez has scored 13 goals with seven assists in 16 games this season and while Vardy has certainly stolen the spotlight, Leicester’s star midfielder deserves a ton of credit as well for his play to this point.
M: Bamidele Alli, Tottenham
Alli helped lead the way for Tottenham at the offensive end of the pitch as he assisted on Harry Kane’s game-winning goal and then added a goal of his own in the 43rd minute of Spurs’ 2-0 win. Alli has the potential to be a constant difference maker for Tottenham this season but he needs to continue to produce the way he did in their latest win in order to keep them in the mix in the top four this season.
Honorable Mention: Willian, Chelsea; Alexander Tettey, Norwich; Ross Barkley, Everton
F: Odion Ighalo, Watford
Ighalo continued his tear for Watford with two goals on three shots in their 3-0 win over Liverpool to make it four straight wins and push his team to seventh in the Premier League table. Ighalo has scored five of his 12 goals this season over the course of Watford’s four straight wins and as long as he stays hot Watford should remain a tough challenge for every opponent they encounter along the way.
F: Shinji Okazaki, Leicester
Vardy’s assist earned him honorable mention on this list but he wasn’t even Leicester’s best forward as that title went to Okazaki after he scored the game-winning goal in the 69th minute versus Everton. It was his only his third goal of the season but it couldn’t have come at a better time and it was enough to earn him a spot in this list among the top Premier League fantasy performers from this past weekend.
Honorable Mention: Cameron Jerome, Norwich; Bojan Krkic, Stoke City; Jamie Vardy, Leicester
