MLB Odds: The Detroit Tigers host the Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon on TBS. The Detroit Tigers have been in a freefall of late and their large lead in the AL Central is now gone. They could be in danger of missing the playoffs altogether if they don’t start playing better. It won’t be easy on Sunday against a Seattle team that is fighting for the second Wild Card spot in the American League. Here is a look at the matchup and MLB picks.
Probable Pitchers – Chris Young vs. Robbie Ray
Chris Young is having a resurgent season for the Mariners. He has a record of 11-6 with a 3.20 ERA. His 11 wins are the most he has had since 2006 with San Diego. He has been excellent in his last 11 starts with a 6-2 record and a 2.67 ERA. He has thrown 21 innings in his career against the Tigers with a 1-0 record and a 2.14 ERA.
Robbie Ray will likely get the start for the Tigers on Sunday. He is 1-2 with a 5.31 ERA this season. The Tigers rotation was expected to be their strength but right now it is weak as both Anibal Sanchez and Justin Verlander are hurt. Ray has not done much to give the team any confidence that he can fill in on a regular basis as he has given up more hits than innings pitched and he is walking far too many hitters.
Mariners vs. Tigers Series
Before this series began on Friday it was the Tigers winning six of the last ten with two of the last three going under. The teams met back in late May in Seattle with the Mariners taking two of three. The Mariners have held their own in Detroit of late, winning six of the last ten. The games have been higher scoring in Detroit in this series with 7 of the last 10 going over the total.
MLB Picks
The pitching edge is definitely with the Mariners in this one so we’ll look for the Mariners to win this one and for the game to go over the total.
