The next stop on the PGA Tour is The Club at PGA West in La Quinta, California where some of the best in the world will take part in this week’s CareerBuilder Challenge. There are certain important elements to keep in mind when building your optimal PGA DraftKings lineup for this week’s tournament but the most important thing to remember might very well be to not be shy about plugging in the most expensive player on the board as he is the perfect star to build around this week. Here is a look at the optimal fantasy lineup for this week’s tournaments.
Patrick Reed, $12,400
Reed is the highest-priced player on the board for good reason. While some will still overlook him based on the money it will cost them, he should definitely be in every single lineup for this week’s Draftkings contests as the highest ranked player in the field. Reed won this event a couple of years ago and has registered seven straight top-10 finishes – including three runner-up finishes over that span. He’s red-hot right now. Sometimes players like to try and outsmart the competition instead of making the obvious play but that shouldn’t be the case when it comes to Reed because he is the closest thing there is to a lock to finish in the top-five and he should have a good shot at the overall victory.
Charles Howell III, $9,100
Howell has been as consistent as they come in Daily Fantasy Leagues and he will be looking for his second top-15 finish in a row after opening2016 with a T-13th at the Sony Open in Hawaii. The upside is definitely there for a talented golfer with the potential to surprise and win every time he is in the field but Howell also brings a level of consistency that makes him a strong pick in DraftKings leagues week in and week out so we don’t expect any different at the CareerBuilder Challenge.
Tony Finau $7,800
Finau struggled last week despite making the cut but that doesn’t mean there isn’t an upside to banking on him bouncing back this week. What’s more is you have the opportunity to plug him in to your lineup at a very reasonable price. Finau impressed at a qualifying school at this course back in 2013 when he recorded one eagle and 30 birdies inside rounds of bogey-free action. He will bank on that experience to try and surprise this week with a chance to really exceed expectations. At $7,800, he’s worth a play to see if he can carry over that stellar performance.
Jhonattan Vegas, $7,000
Vegas has a horrible record since his breakout in 2011 but he opened the season with a strong performance and he did win this event in a playoff back in 2011 so maybe this is the tournament to roll with him as a strong sleeper option. Vegas has added inspiration with his wife pregnant with their first child and his price tag makes him worth taking a chance on this week.
Shawn Stefani, $6,500
Stefani finished a disappointing 50th at the Sony Open in Hawaii a couple of weeks ago but the Texas-native shot limited himself to only six bogeys in the tournament and he could be a strong sleeper play to finish in the top-25 this weekend. It’s obvious Stefani isn’t in the elite class of golfers playing this weekend but his price point makes him a valuable sleeper option for this tournament.
Brendon de Jonge, $7,100
De Jonge might not be the best option on the board but after plugging in Stefani as a decent sleeper option he represents the best bet to surprise based on the players that we can still afford with the money that we have left over. It’s not a lock that he performs at a high level but the reward is well worth the risk when you considering how he allows us to fill out the remainder of our lineup with so many talented pieces that should lead the way to some cash payouts this weekend.
