IPFW Mastodons – South Dakota Coyotes Preview – 02.04.2016

Summit League foes will lock horns when the South Dakota Coyotes (10-13) face off against the IPFW Mastodons (18-6) at DakotaDome. Action begins at 8:00 pm ET on Thursday, Feb. 4.

The Coyotes are hoping to rebound after their 96-83 loss to Omaha in their last matchup. Tyler Flack had a solid performance, putting up 14 points, six rebounds, and one steal for South Dakota. The Mastodons, meanwhile, are coming off an 88-67 win against Western Illinois in their last game. Max Landis was the game’s top scorer, accounting for 19 points on 6-for-12 shooting.

John Konchar and Landis have upped their production over the last five games for the Mastodons. Konchar has averaged 14.6 points, 11.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.4 steals, and 1.6 three-pointers during that stretch, while Landis has put up 23.2 points, 1.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.0 steal, and 4.0 three-pointers.

When examining eFG%, the Mastodons appear to have a noticeable advantage on the offensive side. They’re ranked 22nd in the nation in that category at 55.2%, while the suspect defense of South Dakota ranks only 315th in eFG% defense as opponents are hitting 53.0%.

This is the second game of the season between these two teams, with the Mastodons winning the first matchup 85-65. Mo Evans had a stellar game with 20 points, four rebounds, nine assists, one steal, and four three-pointers.

IPFW won its last game by a 21-point margin. In games decided by a margin of 18 points or more, South Dakota is 1-3. IPFW is 5-2 in blowouts this season.

South Dakota averages 72.4 possessions per game, scoring 1.049 points on each possession. While IPFW averages fewer possessions per game with 70.7, they score more points per possession with 1.128.
