Georgia State Panthers – South Alabama Jaguars Preview – 02.11.2016

Sun Belt foes will collide when the South Alabama Jaguars (9-14) face the Georgia State Panthers (13-8) at Mitchell Center. Action begins at 8:00 pm ET on Thursday, Feb. 11.

The Jaguars are hoping to rebound after their 74-43 loss to Little Rock in their last matchup. Nick Davis had a good outing, recording three points, five rebounds, and one block for South Alabama. The Panthers, meanwhile, are feeling some disappointment after their ugly 90-69 loss against UT Arlington in their last game. Isaiah Williams led the team in scoring with 14 points.

This has potential to be a mistake-prone game for the offense of South Alabama, which ranks 304th in the nation in ball protection (TO% of 20.7%). The disruptive defense of Georgia State forces the 30th-most turnovers in the nation (21.8%).

This is the second game of the season between these two teams, with the Panthers winning the first matchup 70-55. Jeremy Hollowell had a stellar game with 23 points, two rebounds, one assist, two steals, and two three-pointers.

The Jaguars have gone 9-14 Straight Up (SU) and 10-11 Against The Spread (ATS). Over their last 10 games, they have only managed a record of 2-8 ATS.

Over on the other bench, the Panthers have been a poor bet so far, with a disappointing record of 6-13 ATS. Their SU record, 13-8, hasn’t been quite as bad. The Panthers allow just 64.4 points per game, ranking them 26th in the nation. The Panthers have one of the best opponent three-point field goal percentages in the country at .312.

With the Panthers’ last win against South Alabama, their SU record is now 7-2 over South Alabama in their most recent meetings. The Panthers also lead the matchup ATS with a record of 4-1-2. Georgia State held the edge in field goals, rebounds, and three-pointers one time, while South Alabama was never able to do so in their most recent five games.
