Milwaukee Panthers – Detroit Titans Preview – 02.13.2016

The Milwaukee Panthers will be at Calihan Hall to square off against the Detroit Titans in a Horizon matchup. The game gets underway at 3:00 pm ET on Saturday, Feb. 13 and will air on ES3.

The Titans lost a winnable game to Green Bay 86-85 on Thursday. Paris Bass put in a solid effort despite the loss for Detroit, recording 24 points and 13 rebounds to earn his third double-double of the season. The Panthers, meanwhile, are coming off a 93-85 win over Oakland on Thursday. Matt Tiby played well and claimed his eighth double-double of the season, accumulating 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Over the last five games, Jordan Johnson has been on a tear for the Panthers. During that stretch, he has averaged 16.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 9.4 assists, 0.8 steals, and 1.0 three-pointer.

The high-powered offense of the Panthers (27th in the nation with an offensive efficiency of 114.4) will try to exploit the porous defense of the Titans (310th in the nation with a defensive efficiency of 110.0), a matchup that should be advantageous to Milwaukee.

This will be the second matchup of the season between these two teams. The Panthers won the first game 83-80. Johnson was a standout player in the game, producing 25 points, four rebounds, six assists, and three three-pointers.

The Titans enter the game with records of 12-12 Straight Up (SU) and 11-11 Against The Spread (ATS). The Titans have one of the most prolific offenses in the entire nation, averaging 84.3 points per game. The Titans are an incredibly accurate shooting team from three-point range with a .389 three-point field goal percentage, one of the highest marks in Division I. The Detroit defense is doing better against opposing offenses during the last 10 games. It is allowing an average of 75.7 points per game, well under their season average of 83.4.

On the other side, the Panthers head into the game with records of 12-12 ATS and 16-9 SU. They sport the 35th-ranked scoring offense in the country, averaging 79.5 points per game. Milwaukee is one of the top three-point shooting teams in the nation, converting 9.0 shots from three-point range per game. Defenses have a tough time accounting for every player when up against the Panthers, who are known for distributing the ball with 17.8 assists per game. The Milwaukee defense has allowed an average of 85.3 points per game during the last 10 games, higher than their season average of 73.3. Don’t expect Milwaukee to give away the ball much on offense, where its 11.3 turnovers per game ranks 41st in the country.

Following the Panthers’ latest win over Detroit, the two teams’ head-to-head record is now an even 5-5 SU in their most recent games. The Panthers hold the advantage ATS with a record of 7-3. Milwaukee held the edge in field goals, rebounds, and three-pointers once in the last five game, while Detroit wasn’t able to do so in that span.
