There was no reason for Liverpool fans to worry about scoring this past weekend as the club exploded for six goals in a lopsided 6-0 win over Aston Villa. That was unexpected as Liverpool had just 32 goals through their first 25 games on the year. They weren’t the only Premier League side that benefited from an offensive explosion this weekend either as Chelsea got in to the mix as well with a 5-1 win over Newcastle United. It should be no surprise that both clubs are well represented on the following list based on those lopsided results. Here is our weekly EPL fantasy recap from this past weekend.
GK: Ben Foster, West Brom
West Brom snapped its win drought thanks in big part due to Foster’s outstanding performance in goal. He stopped all five shots he faced in a 1-0 win over Everton. Foster stole the show with five saves and the clean sheet bonus only added to his impressive fantasy total from the win. West Brom hasn’t been a particularly good defensive team this season, which is why Foster hasn’t made many of our EPL fantasy recap lists. They’ve allowed 32 goals this season, which is right about in the middle of the pack.
Honorable Mention: Simon Mignolet, Liverpool; Fraser Forster, Southampton
D: Yaya Toure, Liverpool
Liverpool were the big winners from the weekend with a lopsided 6-0 win over Aston Villa. It seemed as though everybody was getting into the action including Toure and his teammate Nathaniel Clyne. Toure scored a goal and earned bonuses for the clean sheet win and a full 90 minutes played to register the highest fantasy score among Premier League defenders. Liverpool has not been a very good defensive team this season but Toure finally got a chance to shine. Liverpool is the only team in the top nine teams of the EPL table that has allowed at least 30 goals this season.
Honorable Mention: Nathaniel Clyne, Liverpool; Jonas Olsson, West Brom; Virgil van Dijk, Southampton
M: Philippe Coutinho, Liverpool
Coutinho was the maestro in the midfield for Liverpool with the best fantasy stat line for the club regardless of position thanks in big part to three assists. Coutinho set up three goals for the Reds and capitalized on bonuses for the clean sheet win in just 65 minutes of action in the lopsided win over Aston Villa.
M: Pedro, Chelsea
Pedro played a similar role in Chelsea’s lopsided win over Newcastle, only he was the finisher for the Blues. Pedro scored twice and played a full 90 minutes to separate himself from teammate William and West Brom’s Dimitri Payet for the second-best fantasy score among Premier League midfielders from this past weekend.

F: Troy Deeney, Watford
Deeney was the star of Watford’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace as he scored both of his clubs goals to get them the victory. That production accounted for a quarter of his goal production in 26 games this season and propelled him to the top of the list as the top Premier League forward in fantasy competitions this past weekend. Watford has had a really tough time scoring goals this season as they have just 29. That’s the fewest of any team in the top nine of the EPL standings.
F: Diego Costa, Chelsea
Costa continued his hot streak for Chelsea with his 10th goal of the season in their 5-1 win over Newcastle United. Costa added an assist to finish with only two points in only 59 minutes of action before being subbed out, but it was enough to edge out West Brom’s Salomon Rondon and Manchester United’s Anthony Martial for the second-best fantasy score among Premier League forwards this past weekend. Chelsea has now moved up to 12th in the table with 33 points. While it’s a far cry from their stellar season last year, at least they’re being a little more respectable by landing in the middle of the pack.
