This week on the Respect the Hustle Podcast, college basketball analyst William Whelan takes a look at the NCAA Tournament bubble, specifically some of the mid-major teams that have generated at-large talk at one point or another, discussing whether any of them have a shot to make it without winning their conference tournaments.
Things get started as Whelan breaks down Gonzaga. The Zags have been one of the most disappointing teams in the country this season, after starting out the year ranked among the nation’s top-ten teams. Since then, they’ve collapsed, losing three conference games including getting swept by rival Saint Mary’s, with the latest loss coming at home to the Gaels. How did Mark Few’s team drop the ball this year? Whelan says that despite their impressive front line, Gonzaga just couldn’t put together any kind of consistency on the perimeter, ultimately holding them back from having to sweat out Selection Sunday.
From there, teams like Saint Mary’s, Monmouth, and San Diego State get his attention, with a lot of talk surrounding the Aztecs and how, despite their domination of the Mountain West, things don’t look good for their at-large hopes.
All that and more is covered this week, and be sure to keep it locked here to follow Whelan as he gets ready for March Madness, including his final picks of who is in, who is out, and who’s going to bust open the bracket with an upset during championship week.
