MSG Boxing Crawford vs Lundy – This Saturday, February 27th the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York hosts HBO Boxing with a card featuring Terence Crawford vs Henry Lundy in the main event.

The bottom line is that Terence Crawford has started to come up in discussions for the top 10 pound for pound fighters in the world. He is a a perfect 27-0 as a professional, and he has already held world championships in two weight classes. As a fighter on Top Rank’s roster, Crawford was one of the finalists to face Manny Pacquiao before Tim Bradley was chosen.
Anything other than a Pacquiao fight was going to be a step back for Crawford. A step back in pay, in attention and in importance. He has left his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska to headline in NYC and the fight airs on HBO, but there is no doubt that Crawford wanted to fight someone other than Henry Lundy.
Lundy brings a veteran record of 26-5-1 to the table and he has dropped two of his last three fights. He is a tough fighter who is going to try to take it to Crawford, but the common thinking is that he does not have the weapons needed to face down Crawford.
Crawford is a classic boxer/puncher, as he is able to bring a lot of terrific spacing and technique to a fight, but he also has the power to end the fight. He is a better technical fighter than Lundy, and he has more power as well. Lundy is a scrapper who appears eager to get down to business and make this a gritty fight for Crawford. He is confident, but he stands practically alone in that confidence.
That formula really leaves Crawford with very little choice. He is going to have to perform. A highlight reel performance and a KO of Lundy is going to be looked upon as simply what Crawford was expected to do. Which means that if Lundy is able to hang around and extend the fight, Crawford runs the risk of looking bad.
Much has been made about the Manny Pacquiao versus Timothy Bradley fight and whether Pacquiao will fight again after that bout. If Pacquiao does return, Crawford will once again lobby for that fight. If he puts on a stinker at the Garden this weekend, he will be diminishing his chances at the biggest potential payday out there for him right now. There is no over/under on the bout posted yet, but consider that Lundy was stopped in five in his last loss, in July of 2015.
