Seton Hall NCAA Tournament Bid Looking Likely

Generated by IJG JPEG Library

A Seton Hall NCAA Tournament bid wasn’t looking so likely just a few weeks ago, but thanks to a dominating win over Providence on Thursday night, the Pirates are right back in the thick of things for a  possible at-large bid on Selection Sunday.

Seton Hall has now won 8-1 since falling to 2-4 in Big East play back in January, thanks in large part to the willingness of star sophomore Isaiah Whitehead being a more willing playmaker for his teammates this season. His assists have jumped from 3.5 per game to a full five per game, though his own shot hunting remains a bit of an inefficient nightmare, no matter how capable he can be at filling it up.

There is work remaining to be done for the Pirates, as games against Xavier and Butler remain on the schedule. Wins in those would give them the kind of resume boost needed to separate oneself from the other middling bubble members that we see every season. Losing both, however, would prove to be costly missed opportunities–at best case, as it applies to seeding they might receive in the Dance.

Obviously, we’ll know a lot more about this group in the coming weeks, especially after the Big East Conference Tournament. However, until then, it’s starting to look like a Seton Hall NCAA Tournament berth is becoming more and more likely, thanks to performances like Thursday night.
