The Campbell Fighting Camels (12-16) will try to slow down the Big South’s top scoring team when they take on the Winthrop Eagles (20-8) at John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center. The game gets underway at 2:00 pm ET on Saturday, Feb. 27.
The Fighting Camels were beaten by Radford 60-56 on Thursday. D.J. Mason played well in the loss for Campbell, recording 20 points and 10 rebounds to earn his sixth double-double of the season. The Eagles, meanwhile, are coming off a bitter 87-85 loss at the hands of High Point on Thursday. Keon Johnson had a game-high 25 points.
Chris Clemons has really been playing well as of late for the Fighting Camels, averaging 21.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.6 steals, and 2.4 three-pointers over the last five games. On the other side, the Eagles have been led by Xavier Cooks. He has been on fire, averaging 17.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.6 steals, 2.4 blocks, and 2.6 three-pointers in the same time frame.
This will be the second matchup of the season between these two teams. The Fighting Camels won the first game 90-83. Johnson was a top player in the game with 32 points, eight rebounds, three assists, one steal, and five three-pointers.
