We begin our golf recap with the shocking medical news that captured the week. The biggest story from the golf world this past weekend had nothing to do with tournament winners. That is because the medical issue that forced Jason Bohn to withdraw from The Honda Classic turned out to be a heart attack caused by a blocked artery. The 42-year-old Bohn was forced to undergo a procedure that included placing a stint in an artery that was reportedly 99-percent blocked. Bohn is lucky to be alive after the incident and there is no doubt that he is the biggest winner on the PGA Tour based on that he survived. Here is a golf recap of the rest of this past weekend’s action from around the world.
The Honda Classic
PGA Tour
Adam Scott quieted his critics when he closed with a 70 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens to finish nine under par and win The Honda Classic. The switch to the short putter didn’t hurt Scott the way that some experts projected as he moved to No. 1 in the world with the victory. The 35-year-old opened the final round tied with his playing partner Sergio Garcia, but moved two shots clear of him with birdies on the first and fifth holes. Scott received a little help when Garcia dropped shots on the 16th and 17th holes as that allowed him to seal the victory. Scott is the first player since Phil Mickelson in 2009 to win on the PGA Tour after carding a quadruple bogey. Scott admitted the transition to the short putter wasn’t easy, but in the end it certainly did work out for him. Garcia went on to finish second at eight-under. Other notables include Rickie Fowler tying for sixth at three-under while Rory McIlroy missed the cut. A lot of bettors and fantasy players were burned by the news of McIlroy not even making it to the final two rounds.

ISPS HANDA Perth International
European Tour
The headline of the EPGA golf recap was South African Louis Oosthuizen. He earned his first title in two years and eighth victory overall on the European Tour when he shot a 16-under to edge out Alexander Levy to win the ISPS HANDA Perth International over the weekend. Although it was his first win in a while, Oosthuizen was actually among the favorites to win the event. The world No. 21 had his three-stroke lead reduced to one after a bogey at the second, but managed to settle down after that and hold on for the one-stroke victory over the Frenchman Levy despite a 71 in the final round. He shot a 70 in the first round and the 71 in the final round, but his 64 in the second round and 67 in the third round led to his winning score. Jason Scrivener posted a 69 in the final round to finish third at 14-under while Gregory Bourdy and Peter Uihlein tied for fourth at 13-under. David Lipsky was the highest placing American as he finished inside of the Top 10 with a -9 in ninth place.

Honda LPGA Thailand
LPGA Tour
Lexi Thompson absolutely dominated the field at the Honda LPGA Thailand over the weekend to secure her seventh LPGA title after a final-round 68 that completed her six-stroke victory. By the end of it, it wasn’t even a close competition. Thompson hit an eagle on the 10th hole and added another three birdies in the final round to finish at 20-under for the tournament – six shots clear of In Gee Chun –dto become the first American ever to win that event. Jessica Korda and Amy Yang tied for third at 13-under, followed by the threesome of Chella Choi, Haru Nomura and Hee Young Park who tied for fifth at 11-under.
