WWE NXT Recap: Neville Returns to NXT

Last week, General Manager William Regal announced that the current NXT Champion Finn Balor will take on the longest reigning NXT Champion of all time, Neville, in what is sure to be a great bout. Also, William Regal announced that there is a new talent signed who will be on NXT tonight.

The Vaudevillains vs. Hugo Knox & Tucker Knight
It has been quite a while since we have last seen the Vaudevillains, who faced the Hype Bros in their last match. After losing the NXT Tag Team Championship, they have not seemed to regain the momentum that the title loss caused them.

Hugo Knox and Tucker Knight barely get in any offense, leading to Simon Gotch and Aiden English to hit the Whirling Dervish for the win. Winners: The Vaudevillains

Backstage Segments
We get a (not so good) promo from Emma and Dana Brooke about how Emma is going to beat her opponent tonight to send a message to Asuka.

Afterwards, we get a hype video of Finn Balor for his main event match against “The Man That Gravity Forgot,” Neville.

Finally, we get a promo from both Colin Cassady and Scott Dawson hype their feud for the NXT Tag Team Championship. Tom Phillips announces that The Revival (formerly known as Dash and Dawson) will defend their NXT Tag Team titles against Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady at the WWE Network live special, WWE Roadblock. This is the second match announced for Roadblock, along with Triple H vs. Dean Ambrose for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Emma (w/Dana Brooke) vs. Santana Garrett
Santana Garrett has not really done much since her NXT debut other than being an enhancement talent. Emma, on the other hand, has been gaining some momentum over the last several weeks in her feud against Asuka.

After an impressive showing by Santana Garrett (who got a surprising amount of crowd chants), Emma locks in the Emma Lock for the win. Winner (via submission): Emma

Backstage Segment
William Regal is backstage with Eva Marie and Nia Jax, who defeated Bayley and Carmella in a tag team match last week. Regal announces that they will have another tag team match on a future episode of NXT, against Bayley and Asuka.

In-ring Segment
William Regal is in the ring to announce the latest “acquisition” for the NXT roster: Austin Aries. Aries made a name for himself in Ring of Honor and TNA, similar to Samoa Joe and AJ Styles, who are both currently signed to WWE.

Aries makes his way down to the ring, and gets attacked from behind by Baron Corbin. Before heading to the back, Corbin hits the End of Days outside of the ring. Corbin has been frustrated over the last several weeks with General Manager William Regal for not making him the #1 Contender for the NXT Championship.

Steve Cutler vs. Elias Samson
Steve Cutler, who has never been on NXT before (as far as I know), is a former United States Marine according to Corey Graves. Elias Samson, the most boring man in NXT and also known as “The Drifter,” has been on NXT too often. It is clear that the crowd doesn’t like him, because they constantly chant “Drift away!” every time Samson is in the ring.

After a short match with an almost dead crowd, Elias Samson hits a modified swinging neckbreaker for the win. Winner: Elias Samson

Finn Balor vs. Neville
This is a good time for this match to happen, considering that both of these men have not really been on television as of late. Neville won the Slammy Award for “Breakout Star of the Year” in 2015, but hasn’t really been featured on Raw or Smackdown since. If Finn Balor wins this match, it will definitely build momentum for the champion going into NXT TakeOver: Dallas to take on either Sami Zayn or Samoa Joe.

After a great showing from both competitors, Finn Balor hits a brainbuster for the win. Winner: Finn Balor

Backstage Segment
Rich Brennan is interviewing Samoa Joe and Sami Zayn, who hype their 2-out-of-3 falls #1 Contender’s match next week to end this episode of NXT.
