WWE Smackdown Recap: New #1 Contenders

On Monday Night Raw, we saw Y2AJ defeat the New Day, making them the #1 Contenders, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch had a draw in their #1 Contenders match for the Divas Championship, and Triple H beat Dean Ambrose senseless after granting him a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at WWE Roadblock. Tonight’s episode of Smackdown features the rematch between Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch to determine the #1 Contender for Charlotte’s Divas Championship.

Opening Segment
Dean Ambrose makes his way to the ring, clearly still reeling from the beating he got from Triple H at the end of Monday Night Raw. Dean Ambrose faces Triple H for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Roadblock, which takes place on March 12. If Ambrose wins the title, he can either defend the title against the current champion, Triple H, the #1 Contender, Roman Reigns, or the man he already challenged to a match at WrestleMania, Brock Lesnar.

Kevin Owens comes to the ring to taunt Ambrose, about both his beating from Triple H, and when Kevin Owens defeated Ambrose in a Fatal 5-way match for the Intercontinental Championship. Owens tries to ambush Ambrose, and Ambrose counters, followed up by a challenge to a match tonight.

The Usos vs. Rusev & Sheamus (w/King Barrett & Alberto Del Rio)
I don’t think that there could be a match I care less about. If you read these recaps regularly, you know that I hate every second that the League of Nations is on my television screen. Also, The Usos have great matches and all, but their personality is nothing more than JBL saying “USO CRAZY MAGGLE.”

Sheamus hits a Brogue kick on one of the Usos for the win. Winners: Sheamus & Rusev

After the match, The Dudley Boyz come down to the ring carrying a table (#SaveTheTables). They take advantage of the Usos just being in a tag match, and lay them out.

Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz
On the last episode of Monday Night Raw, The Miz defeated Dolph Ziggler in less than a minute, and Ziggler looks to redeem himself.

He ends up avenging his loss, by getting a quick win over the Miz. Winner: Dolph Ziggler

Golden Truth Update
The situation is reversed, as R-Truth is trying to convince Goldust to be a team now.

Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch – #1 Contender’s Match
On Monday Night Raw, Banks and Lynch faced each other to determine the #1 contender, but the match ended in a draw.

After another great match, Ric Flair distracts Lynch and Banks, leading to Charlotte attacking both of them from behind, ending in another draw. The #1 Contender for the Divas Championship is still undecided. Result (via disqualification): Draw

After the match, Charlotte is backstage with Renee Young after her attack of Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch. Renee tells Charlotte that she won’t be versing Banks or Lynch, she will be facing them both.

Kofi Kingston (w/The New Day) vs. AJ Styles
Last week, Y2AJ defeated the New Day to become the #1 Contenders to the WWE Tag Team Championship. Earning that spot, they will challenge New Day for the titles on Monday Night Raw next week.

The referee ejects the New Day from the match, and AJ Styles hits a springboard forearm on Kofi Kingston for the win. Winner: AJ Styles

Match Announcement
Brock Lesnar will take on Bray Wyatt at the WWE Network special, Roadblock, on March 12.

Kevin Owens vs. Dean Ambrose
These two have faced each other plenty of times in the last couple of months, and each match has been solid. This one should be no different.

Using his never-say-die mentality, Dean Ambrose fights Kevin Owens through an injury, eventually hitting the Dirty Deeds for the win to end this episode of Smackdown. Winner: Dean Ambrose
