Maryland’s Disappointing Big Ten Conference Play

Finishing third in the Big Ten Conference is not necessarily something to scoff at, but when you are the Maryland Terrapins and were expected to compete for a national title this season, finishing third has to feel like a disappointment.

This team has not shown a consistent ability to play a full game or a full stretch of games with focus. They don’t rebound the ball very well;  they don’t defend with a sense of urgency very often;  they simply don’t do anything with the consistency one expects out of a team that has as much talent as they do and, frankly, as much experience as much of their team has.

Maryland is in the bottom half of the conference tournament bracket, set to match up with Michigan State in the semi-finals should they make it there. To do so no, they would need to beat a Wisconsin team that Recently dominated them on their home floor. With the way these two teams are trending, would anyone feel entirely comfortable picking Maryland to pull that game out?

Losing by 18 points at Indiana on senior night is not what should concern someone. There may not have been a team in the country that would have beaten Indiana yesterday. However, it is the overall trend of Maryland’s lack of focus and lack of consistency that has people wondering whether or not this team has what it takes to make a run to the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament.
