WWE Roadblock is the last pitstop on the “Road to WrestleMania” (hence the name, “Roadblock”). Along with matches that focus on the main roster, there is also a match that features NXT Superstars. The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) will defend the NXT Tag Team Championships against Enzo Amore and “Big Cass,” Colin Cassady. Also defending their Tag Team Championships are Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods of The New Day against Wade Barrett and Sheamus of the League of Nations (who need some Booty-O’s cereal. “They make sure you ain’t booty!”). Charlotte will take on Natalya, Brock Lesnar will face Bray Wyatt, and the show will be main evented by Triple H defending the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against “The Lunatic Fringe,” Dean Ambrose. This event can change the whole landscape of WrestleMania.
The New Day (c) vs. Sheamus & Wade Barrett – WWE Tag Team Championship
I have admitted over the last few months of write-ups that I do not the League of Nations at all. However, they have one entertaining about them: The Wave. In one of their matches, the crowd got so bored that they started the wave, and the League of Nations decided to adopt that as their team taunt.
Wade Barrett hits a superkick on Big E, but Xavier Woods distracts the referee so the pinfall could not be counted. After this distraction, Big E manages to hit the Big Ending on Wade Barrett to win, and keep the Tag Team Championship titles. Winners, and STILL WWE Tag Team Champions: The New Day
Backstage Segment
We are backstage with Paul Heyman, the advocate for Brock Lesnar, who faces Bray Wyatt later on in the night. Heyman said a lot, but in a nutshell, Bray Wyatt will be destroyed.
Chris Jericho vs. Jack Swagger
Well, I guess they needed a match to fill time. Jack Swagger hasn’t been around for a while, and Chris Jericho is in a tense feud with AJ Styles, so I wonder who will win this one (Jericho). Before the match, Jericho does some insulting of Canada (this takes place in Toronto), and also says that he’s the biggest icon to come out of Canada.
Swagger gets in a lot of offense and puts on a great match, but Jericho prevails, locking in the Walls of Jericho for the win. Winner (via submission): Chris Jericho
The Revival (c) vs. Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady (w/Carmella) – NXT Tag Team Championship
These two teams have had a heated rivalry over the last few months, which has included fights backstage, and very good tag team matches. This is a good opportunity for fans who don’t watch NXT (If you don’t watch NXT, you really should. It’s consistently better than Monday Night Raw.) to see what they’re missing, with two of the best teams that NXT has ever seen.
Enzo Amore and “Big Cass” get in some great offense, but The Revival prevails, hitting a combination of a flapjack and diving DDT, similar to The New Day’s finisher, for the win. Winners, and STILL NXT Tag Team Champions: The Revival
Charlotte (c) vs. Natalya – Divas Championship
After Natalya decided to call the Flairs “cowards,” she convinced Charlotte to put the Divas Championship on the line. With the triple threat match with Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte planned for WrestleMania 32, I don’t see Natalya winning this match, even though she has the hometown crowd behind her.
Charlotte locks in the Sharpshooter, but Ric Flair helps Charlotte escape. Natalya tries to hit Ric Flair, and the distraction causes Charlotte to roll-up Natalya (with her feet on the ropes) for the win. Winner, and STILL Divas Champion: Charlotte
Brock Lesnar vs. Bray Wyatt & Luke Harper
Bray Wyatt is without two members of his family, so there is no chance that he is winning this match. Lesnar has beaten everybody (including Luke Harper at a house show last night), and Wyatt loses to everybody. Bray Wyatt says that he and Harper will take on Lesnar together, and “slay the beast,” meaning that this is a handicap match.
Bray Wyatt stood at ringside for the entire match, and fed Harper to The Beast Incarnate, who hit several suplexes and an F-5 to put Harper away. Winner: Brock Lesnar
Sami Zayn vs. Stardust
This is the second throwaway match of the night, which is a shame considering Sami Zayn just debuted last week on Monday Night Raw, and Stardust is one of the most underrated Superstars on the roster. The reason I claim that this is a throwaway match is that this is the spot before the main event, where the crowd takes a bathroom break.
I take back the “throwaway” comment: This match is surprisingly good. After hitting an exploder suplex in the corner, and a Helluva Kick, Sami Zayn picks up the win. Winner: Sami Zayn
Triple H (c) vs. Dean Ambrose – WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Man, I hope Ambrose wins this match. It would be great if Ambrose and Reigns face each other at WrestleMania, and it would be way more interesting than what is currently planned.
Well, it’s the same boring stuff as before. Triple H hit a Pedigree on Dean Ambrose for the win. Winner, and STILL WWE World Heavyweight Champion: Triple H
Overall, WWE Roadblock was a solid special with tons of great matches. However, since there were no title changes, everything stays the same for WrestleMania.
