Villanova Wildcats – UNC Asheville Bulldogs Preview – 03.18.2016

The No.15-seeded UNC Asheville Bulldogs get together with the No.2-seeded Villanova Wildcats in the first round of the NCAA tournament at the Barclays Center. Action begins at 12:40 pm ET on Friday, Mar. 18 and can be seen on TRU.

The Wildcats lost a tough one against Seton Hall 69-67 in the 4 of the Big East tournament. Kris Jenkins finished with 23 points to lead the team. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, are coming off a 77-68 win against Winthrop in the 4 of the Big South tournament. Dwayne Sutton played well, registering 25 points and 18 rebounds to claim his eighth double-double of the season.

Over the last five games, Jenkins has been playing at a high level for the Wildcats, averaging 21.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.6 steals, and 4.2 three-pointers. On the other side, the Bulldogs have their own duo that have upped their production in that span. Sutton has averaged 14.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.6 steals, 0.8 blocks, and 0.8 three-pointers, while Ahmad Thomas has put up 16.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 3.4 steals, and 0.8 three-pointers.

This matchup pits one of the nation’s top offenses against one of its elite defenses, as Villanova currently ranks 25th in the nation in offensive efficiency and UNC Asheville is 13th in defensive efficiency.

The Wildcats come into this game 29-5 Straight Up (SU) and 16-17 Against The Spread (ATS). They are 7-3 SU and perfect ATS (3-0) in their last 10 games. The Wildcats are a phenomenal shooting team from the line with a .777 free throw percentage, one of the highest marks in Division I.
