Scott Drew Job Security Questions Arise

With yet another first round exit in the NCAA Tournament, Scott Drew job security questions are starting to pick up steam regionally, as well as nationally.

Is Drew on the verge of getting fired? Absolutely not. His eight 20-win seasons in Waco, not to mention two Elite Eight appearances and another Sweet 16, have largely been enough to satisfy those within and around the Bears’ program. But the times are changing.

Oklahoma has seemingly returned as a national power, while Texas seems to have reversed their recent fortunes with the hiring of Shaka Smart, causing many to wonder how quickly he can win a conference title. Oklahoma State? They can’t be too fair behind UT in turning things around.

Truth is, Baylor is in a place where they risk falling behind their in-state competition–which require adding Texas A&M and SMU to the equation–if something doesn’t change. This program always recruits talent, but they’ve finished higher than third in the Big 12 standings just one in his tenure.

The bar for success at Baylor was raised once he turned this program around and resurrected its reputation, but if they are going to take that further and develop into a true power, then Drew would be well served to get them there as soon as possible.
